SuperMap and 3D

SuperMap and 3D

SuperMap is a Geographic Informtion System software products and services provider and information technology enterprise in Asia which was founded in 1997. It’s kind of ESRI in Asia, they have a « similar » product to ArcGis, SuperMap GIS. SuperMap GIS is a complete integration of series of GIS platform software, including Desktop GIS, Service GIS, Component GIS and Mobile GIS platforms and spatial data production, processing and management tools.

The new generation 3D GIS technology system by SuperMap is based on the integration of 2D and 3D technologies which expands the full spatial data model and strengthens analysis and computing capabilities. Also, it comprehensively integrates multi-source heterogeneous data such as oblique photogrammetry, BIM, point cloud, and 3D field, develops symbolized 3D modeling technology, and defines and implements some key technologies such as spatial computing, spatial relation query, and spatial analysis of 3D solid objects.

Today, technology revolution of information is characterized by digitization, networking and intelligence. Those technology are fast growing, and the integration of the new generation information technology and traditional GIS technology has become a trend. As the construction of smart cities goes into a new stage, the digital expression of the whole domain, all elements, entire space and the whole process becomes a basic prerequisite for smart cities. In this context, the Digital Twin has emerged as an essential element, and 3D GIS technology is a must for building a Digital Twin of cities.

On this video we can see how deep integration of BIM + GIS bring more value. This technology is developped by SuperMap and Dassault System

To realize the cross-border integration of BIM + GIS, the first thing is accessing BIM data on a GIS platform. Among the global BIM software, each of them has their own storage methods. And the data formats are different from each other and they are relatively closed without an open file structure, which brings challenges to access BIM data to the GIS platform. Also, it requires data format conversion tools and plug-ins based on BIM and GIS to read BIM data, which is to convert BIM data to GIS database, based on the native support of the BIM software library.
